Groundspace Project is pleased to present “Making a home where they lay their heads.”, a solo painting exhibition by Stephen Parise. Through the use of soft, direct brushwork, subtle color and and dreamy abstract compositions, Mr. Parise creates in his paintings liminal spaces evocative of the Tantric tradition.

Artist’s Statement:
My work is playful and curious about materials, subjects and painting itself. There are great differences between the paintings, but I feel there are a lot of similarities too. When selecting work for this show, it was important to use the differences to create a kind of rhythm. Some of the paintings I would describe as quiet while others a bit noisy perhaps.
For me, it is important that a painting resonates further than its subject or materials. I think that is the best way I can describe it. It is a feeling that I often find through the process, seeing what works (and what doesn’t), thinking about why, and keeping the work engaging for the viewer. I want the work to have some kind of timeless quality about it – in that it isn’t about a particular moment or a particular place.
Groundspace Project is an alternative exhibition space located in downtown Los Angeles.
